I have a question about the movie Doomsday???

I watched this movie this weekend and personally i thought it was badass but i fell asleep during this one part for like five minutes cuz we were watching it at 4 in the morning. but anyways why did they go to that castle and why were they all "middle age" when it was the year 2035?
