I have a question about ticks...?

I heard that if you pull a tick off you that is already latched on, the head of the tick will remain on your body disconected for the rest of its body. is this true? If so is the head still alive or is it dead and if it is alive how long can it live?

If the head is left on, it dies, but gets infected.
