The car that I have now(nissan sentra)has been getting 10w30 oil put in by the previous owner(not sure for how long).I was reading through the user manual and it said that 5w30 was best.my car has been loud while driving the past few days(it got oil put in last week, don't know what kind)and today it got more 10w30 in it.Is this affecting the sound of the engine any?

  1. 10w30 and 5w30 are going to be okay. The oil won't typically cause extra noise unless you are running real low.

  2. No, there is very little difference between 10W and 5W.

Nissan often quote an unusual oil viscosity that is not widely available so that you have to go to Nissan and use their oil.

Have your noisey engine properly checked out.

  3. If you car suddenly got louder it is most likely a problem with the muffler and/or exhaust system.

  4. No. You most likely have an exhaust leek.

  5. either oil is ok for your car. if your car is getting louder you should have it checked for maybe a leak in the exhaust system somewhere.

  6. you probably have an exhaust leak// your muffler ,catalitic converter or one of the pipes has a hole in it start your engine up and look underneath for signs of where the exaust is comming out should tell you where the leak is.

  7. No more than 5w30 would. Are you loseing oil??

  8. what do you mean loud?, the car itself or the engine is making noise?, you might need a new exhaust one way and the other way you might be hearing a bad lifter in the engine, depends what the noise is, we can't hear it, if you put oil in it last week and again today your engine sounds like it's burning oil and needs rebuilt, if you used 5w-30 it would use oil faster than using the 10w-30 as the 5w-30 is thinner oil.
