  1. I did a science experiment on this in high school and think it all really depends on what type of music you like.  People feel agitation when they are listening to music they don't like (heart rate and blood pressure increases) and people feel calm  or comfort when they listen to the types of music they do like (heart rate and blood pressure decrease).  So, if your baby likes that type of music, it'll be fine.  If not, then you could be causing your baby discomfort.  If it bothers you, tell your fiance to grow upa nd give the loud music a rest for a while.  When the baby is here, he'll have to get used to keeping the volume down anyway.  May as well get practice now!  Best of luck and many blessings!

  2. I doubt your baby will be "angry" or anything like that.  Though it's said that Mozart played to the baby while in womb will make the baby more intelligent, it's not completely true or scientific.  Besides, most socialization to music happens when the child is between 3 and 5.  What your child will likely listen to in the future will have some impact then.  Thank about your family and friends - it happens everywhere.

I'll give you an example with my family.  My mom used to listen to soft rock when she was pregnant with my brother.  Then, when my dad and brother started doing "guy stuff" at the age of about 4, they listened to things like AC/DC and the Offspring.  My brother now loooves AC/DC and has moved into more loud, hard rap (he started listening to that by himself at about 10 and now is in his 20s still listening to it).  Just something to think about!  Best wishes and congrats!

  3. Look, my husband is into Megadeth and Norma Jean, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, and all that stuff as well. Your baby will NOT be angry. Do not believe anyone who tells you that. Throughout my pregnancy with my daughter, that's pretty much all we listened to, was any type of metal, and anytime we played it, it really got my daughter "dancing". To this day, she absolutely LOVES that genre of music, and she is the happiest and most social child I have ever met. She's 17 months old.

Listening to that music instilled a love of music in her.

We do the same during my current pregnancy. Everytime Daddy turns on Neuraxis or any other band, my son "dances" to the end of the CD. I'm sure he will turn out to be a perfectly happy child as well.

Edit: As the first poster said, though, it is a good idea that once you hit the 20's and 30's in terms of weeks of pregnancy to keep the volume of ANY music, not just metal, to a reasonable volume, as it can, not necessarily will, but can damage the developing ear drums within the womb. This is mostly in term of listening to loud music in small spaces such as a car or a concert hall.

But don't worry about your baby becoming angry because of the music you and your fiance listen to. That won't happen.

  4. "REALLY loud" is REALLY bad during pregnancy.  The baby's ears are still developing and need to have normal sound ranges.  It is possible to damage a baby's hearing for life while in the womb.

If you do an internet search, you will find all sorts of cautions on avoiding loud machinery, construction sites, startling in the womb due to sudden loud noises, etc.

Once you are in the "20's" for weeks during your pregnancy, you need to keep the volume at a normal speaking level and avoid continual loud sounds.
