I have been taking 25 mg for around 2-3 months now and it just feels like it isin't working anymore. I have been having a completely empty feeling the past i guess 3 or so days. There are alot of events in my life that could be causing it but should i up the dose to 50 mg? The doctor said i could if i felt like it wasnt working so well anymore. I have been drinking alot to drown out my feelings and just escape reality. Now i am just left empty, confused and know i can't just keep drinking every night.

  1. define to me "zolaughtf" and i will tell you. i need to know and its not in dictionary. gidygidygoo

  2. You dosage needs to be changed!  I've been on Zoloft for several years and it took a bit to find the right dosage.  If your doctor says to go up to 50 mgs you should do it!  Email me if you have questions!

  3. I am a CMA

My daughter has been on several different drugs for depression and they too wear off in time.. Your body builds a resistance to them and they do not work.. Have your Psychiatrist prescribe you either a stronger dosage or something new all together.. With Psych  medications it is a trial and error process and it just takes a while to find the right dosage and combination of medications... My daughter takes Prozac and Ritalin and so far so good

  4. Your right drinking is not the answer.  I would up the dose to 50mg and see if that helps And make sure you talk to your doctor.  Drinking and medication do not mix.  My friend takes 25mg of zoloft and has for years, it works for her, but everybody is different.  Sometimes it takes a while to find the right dose and medication that works.  Dont give up, your on the right track by the looks of your question.

  5. You know- my boyfriend also took zoloft for about two months, and it seemed to do absolutely nothing for him, so his doctor upped the dosage and still nothing. Then he switched to another anti-depressant (both because it wasn't working and because of sexual side effects) and it worked a lot better for him. Then he stopped taking it and he went to drinking really heavy (every night) he's now getting back on it. Point is- go to your doctor and get your dosage moved up. A friend of mine also takes zoloft, but at 100 mg. And it took 6 months to find the right prescription level for her. Keep your head up, sometimes it takes a while for medication to fully work. And if you find that zoloft isn't working for you, try something else. Don't give up until you have used all of you possible resources. Good luck!

  6. The sad thing is, psychotropic drugs do stop working sometimes with some people.  If your doctor said to increase it, I would try that.  But be prepared to try other medications as well.

You might also consider some other methods to deal with your depression.  Therapy, of course, can be helpful, as can peer support programs.  I work with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and we have a lot of programs for people who have various types of problems.  Please consider finding out other ways to help yourself as well.

    Take care.

  7. It's not good to drink when taking this type of medication.Alcohol is a depressant.Talk to your Dr. about it.

  8. Talk to your doctor

  9. Canada Sucks

  10. First off I would stop drinking. Once you have done that, wait around 4-5 days to see how you feel without alcohol in your system. (do take your Zoloft even when you are stopping the alcohol).

Next, if you feel that your Zoloft is still not working, since your doctor has said that you can up your does, do it. Make sure that you do keep your next appointment with the doctor.

Increasing a medication does not always mean that there will be side effects, or even the same ones. Usually (this is not always) the side effects happen when you are getting on or off a medication, not when there is a small increase.

If you are not seeing a therapist, get in to see someone. Given what you said, it might be beneficial to gain some skills to help yourself. You will also be able to be in a safe place to talk about the events that have been happening to you.

Therapy is closer to a natural remedy than medications. If you do have bipolar you should be in therapy to gain tools that will help you out for the rest of your life. You will also need medication for the rest of your life if it is bipolar. The medication will help stabilize you so that you will have a life where you can do anything you want. It will also give you a life worth living.

    Best wishes!!!
