I just won a cordless phone at a white elephant party, and my mother has a phone number for the house phone. Do I share the same number or can I get a different one. I'm living with my mom.

  1. You have to share the same # unless you contact your provider and get a 2nd phone line added, of course it will cost extra.  Or you could keep the same phone line and just get a 2nd # added, when people call that # it will have a double or triple ring so you know their calling for you, this is much cheaper.

  2. You would have the same number probably.

Some houses have a few different lines with different numbers.

I'm not sure how to make a new one though.

  3. If you just plug your phone into a phone jack at your mother's house, you would be using her phone line, and would have the same number.  If you want a different number, you will have to call the phone company and tell them that you want a second phone line installed.  The cost will depend on the services that you want on that line.  You might have to pay a deposit if you have never had a phone in your name before.

Several years back I had a second line for my computer/internet service.  I didn't have it long.  It added too much to the cost of using my computer.

Anyway, it is possible to have your own phone number at your mother's house, but, it will cost you.  You will need to ask your mother if she will allow this, it is her house
