"play a sonata on the piano"

"have a talk on the phone"

" i heard in on the radio"

"i watched the game on tv"

"she cut her finger on a knife"

you can see "on" above sentence.i think that i could use "in" above sentence instead of "on".it's only my opinion.i would like to know if i cuould use "in" instead of "on".if i couldn't use "in" instead of "on" what reason is it?

  1. "In" is a completely different preposition, mate.  In means inside, while on means "in use of" or "on top of."

You can't be on a pool (without it having a cover) and certainly can't be in the phone.  Therefore, you can cut your finger on the knife's blade.

  2. No, you cannot use in.  It would imply you are inside the piano, inside the phone, inside the radio, inside the TV, and inside the knife.  Do you understand?  I cannot explain why "on the piano" does not mean "on top of the piano" but it doesn't.  It just means you're using the piano.  "in" does mean "inside" though in all these sentences.  You just would not hear it.  Just one of those things you'll have to accept without reason.  Sorry, but hope I've helped.

  3. No, not if you want people to take you seriously.

  4. grammar, dude.
