I have a question for french people from yahoo?

do u generally consider american to be liberal on social issues(liberal on sociall isues regards things like homosexuality,prostitution and man others) or conservatives.Note that I am nether american or french.PLs answer my question only if u are french.thanks!

I find Americans more conservative:

- they are very religious, some are even "creationists";

- they have an unhealthy issue with nudity and female b*****s are blurred in the media, being topless is forbidden on the beach, etc;

- prostitution is forbidden (not that I am defending it) yet it is practised under many different forms (escort agencies, "special" massages, which are even listed in the Yellow Pages), which is completely hypocritical; yet the sexual exploitation of women in strip clubs does not seem to shock anyone...

- swear words are bleeped on TV and the radio

- there are drinking age laws, "dry" towns, etc.

- some states have absurd sexual majority laws;

- on social welfare, it's every man for themselves and if you're poor, tough! Which comes from their puritan heritage.

- a lot of young women think of marrying rich instead of being financially independent;

- some US states still have death penalty;

- abortion and g*y marriage are major issues in political campaigns.

As far as homosexuality is concerned, some US states may seem more liberal but it's because with such a large population, Americans from "minorities" can better organize into lobbies to make things move forward. But only 40 % of Americans approve of same-s*x marriage vs 50 to 64% of the French. Also, in France civil unions have been legal since 1999 with a very high approval rate from the population long before the law was passed.

America has very little regulation on labor and trade but too many on things that relate to personal life.
