Question:

I have a question for pro-lifers about rape?

Most pro-lifers I know (and see post on here) believe that abortion is okay in instances of rape and incest. But if the baby in utero is an individual with the right to life, why does it lose that right just because the mother was raped? What makes it go from "baby" to "disposable lump of cells" just because the mom didn't choose to have intercourse? Isn't that just making the child the second victim of the rape?

  1. i am sorry fender strat but shut the h**l up... why in this question did feminism come up in a harsh sense... feminists aren't men haters you close minded fool. Feminists can be men to! in fact i know alot of them to be men... feminism is about equality and women having their own say but i am sure you would love to go back in the day where we were just a doormat and housewife huh??

I agree rape shouldn't be bought up so lightly! I believe it is the women's choice in cases like that... and i am pro choice..

i know alot of women who have had their babies even if the father didnt stay around (which isnt always the case i am just using it as an example, my boyfriend is a wonderful father) so not every woman is going to get an abortion just cause the choice is there that is stupid.

soo to you pro life i understand why you want the baby to live i really do i couldn't imagine my life without my little boy... but when it comes down to it, it isnt the worlds choice it is the individual and the circumstances might call for it, as harsh as that might sound. this is why i am pro choice.

Dont make girls who have or might have to have an abortion feel any worse then they may already by always being so harsh with your answers ok....

  2. This is a great question and I will probably get a lot of thumbs down for this.

I know a girl who is only here on this earth because her mom was raped and decided to keep the baby. This girl is one of the sweetest people I know and I've actually talked to her about what happened with her mom. She said that if her mom had gotten an abortion, she would never be here.

I will argue that everyone has the right to live. It is not up to the child to pay for something that wasn't their fault, and it's not up to us humans to play God with an unborn child's life, even if it happened by accident or mistake.

  3. I'm AGAINST ABORTION  unless in special situations like health reasons or raped or forced

  4. In a traumatic and rare experience of rape, where a police report has been filed and evidence of physical violence has been established, I would have no problem with a woman using the morning after pill. However, the idea that most abortions happen as a result of a rape is absurd.

  5. In the event that a woman has been severely raped where as she feels nothing but hatred for the child, and is forced to carry and deliver the child the results will be disastrous to the child, and mother both; no one can guarantee the child upon reaching adulthood will not go and search for its birthmother, and no one can guarantee how that outcome of such an encounter. It's best to be merciful to the child before it gets a chance to reach such a stage in its life. I, also firmly believe in the course of time that child will be born; after all the soul lives on, and perhaps it can be reborn to a mother who is more capable to be its mother.  Now, remember I am no expert in this subject; it's how I feel, religion, and, or no religion. I do believe that life is in black and white; however, there are various shades of black and white, and we need to broaden our way of thinking..

  6. If a woman has been raped she does not want to live with that child who would be a daily reminder of a time that brought her so much pain.

She should have a right to an abortion then.

As a matter of fact, ALL women should have the right to choose what to do with their bodies.  Abortion, however, should not be used as a form of birth control.

  7. You're assuming all anti-abortionists believe that the baby has a right to life.

I don't, none the less I think abortion is absolutely disgusting and shameful. Any woman who willingly has s*x for her pleasure and then aborts a baby because she can't take care of it is pathetic and shouldn't be having s*x to begin with.

    I don't have s*x, if I was raped I'd have an abortion.

  8. First you are presuming that all those opposed to Abortion have the same viewpoint. That is a mistaken assumption. Second the principle you are missing here is if this Woman bears a child and chooses to keep it. The Laws would give the Biological Father standing in Courts and possibly visitation rights. Allowing him to continue to abuse the Mother, and to torment the Child.

In Columbus Ohio a 15 year old male, was statutorily raped and is now being forced to pay Child Support to his Female Rapist. Yes the Courts are forcing him to pay his Rapist. Women have a right to not be abused by a Sexual predator.

Some groups Buddhists have Dharmas or teachings and precepts that respect human life. And on principle they are opposed to aborting the child. The Pro Life movement is not as monolithic as the Pro Choice folks are presenting it to be.

  9. I believe the reasoning behind this kind of argument is that when rape occurs that the woman becomes a victim worthy of certain considerations that women who have consentual s*x and experience unwanted pregnancy are not entitled to and these entitlements and considerations allow for the moral acceptability of abortion even when the zygote is considered a human person. Of course, I'm not pro-life and believe that unwanted, as opposed to unplanned, pregnancies are in themselves a traumatic experience that, for effect really, can be likened to rape.

  10. "What makes it go from "baby" to "disposable lump of cells" just because the mom didn't choose to have intercourse"

....nothing does, of course. There is still a life present inside the mother's womb that deserves a chance. Certainly, we should give the mother all the support she needs, and there should be no pressure to keep the baby once he or she is born...but to abort the baby because of how he or she was conceived is not the right way to go about it.

  11. (cue music) Every sperm is sacred... come on... join in everyone!

  12. You are totally right. I don't believe that abortion should EVER be the solution. Each baby deserves the right to life no matter how it got there or what state of health it might be in.

In the case of rape/incest, I see it this way; It is not the child's choice to have come to be that way, the child shouldn't be the one to suffer for it.

As for the child being born with some type of disablility: No one has the right to say what perfect is. If we wanted the "perfect" child, no children would be born. For the people who would abort their baby just because it might have a disability, they need to spent time with a disabled baby. If anything it will change their mind on the perfection of a child. Each person is fearfully and wonderfully made and we do not know the purpose for that child and we never will know if it is aborted.

No baby is imperfect. God has a reason for each and every one born.

  13. I'm pro choice and as long as the lady has a choice I'm pro-life and it is not a child until it can outside the womb.

  14. I've made the very same point, time and again.

If abortion is murder - how can it be less so, if the pregnancy is the result of rape?  If it is a defenseless life - why is it okay to snuff it out only when the mother is raped?

Its difficult to take one side of such a controversial subject - but with one so very important - one must.  And pro-lifers just don't.  Its easier to cave on the more difficult questions, I guess.

  15. How would the child cope knowing its father raped its mother and that's why it exists?

  16. It seems to be the lesser of two evils

By the way, there are plenty of pro-lifers who don't make the distinction in cases of rape

Nothing in this life is 100% right or wrong, rape incest and endangerment to the mother fall into a moral grey area for abortion

  17. I don't think it's ok in either of those situations.

  18. good point.  And Rachel above, that's one of the most arrogant attitudes i've ever seen.  Who gave you the right to decide who lives or dies?

  19. if i got pregnant from being raped, i think i'd have to give the baby up for adoption. being reminded every single day about the man who raped me whenever i saw my child would be too much for me. but if i had an abortion, i wouldn't be able to live with myself.

  20. I agree-and I have a real problem on the rape issue.  I don't think abortion is right in the case of rape.  Having said that, I can completely understand why a woman would want an abortion in that instance, since it was more or less completely out of her control.  I don't think it's something we should encourage, but I'm not sure I could really tell a woman not to get an abortion in that case myself if she wanted it.  I would point to the one woman I know of who was raped and got pregnant (second-hand knowledge) who had the baby and was very grateful for it and wouldn't trade the kid for anything as proof it can work out.

  21. I believe that many pro-lifers see forced childbirth as a punishment for having s*x. They generally deny this, but it's pretty clear. So of course most of them are ok if the woman was raped because she didn't have s*x of her own accord. If they genuinely believed that the embryo/foetus has the same rights as a woman, they would not allow abortion in this case, only if the mother's life was at risk.

  22. I know you think you are doing good but you aren’t. I have been raped ok and this type of **** just makes me feel like less of a person than everyone else.  I don't want to constantly see these questions, we all know this is bad why do people keep brining it up? It has taken me about 2 years to deal with what happened and I am still not ok. So why do people bring up rape questions in pro-life, pro-choice? I dont want to think about it anymore, I m sorry but it's just a really harsh way to prove how much better you are. I just don't want to hear about rape ever again.

  23. i am a pro lifer but it isn't black or white, i believe that if you go around sleeping with loads of ppl not taking precautions you should live up to the responsibility, if you are not mature enough to at least handle a pregnancy and adoption than you are not mature enough to have s*x, if you are raped than it is not you're fault, you are not using it as birth control and no one could ever expect you to go through with the pregnancy. to me i class them all as baby's its just in certain situations it is best for mother and child alike.

i remember not that long ago there was a catholic girl who had to go to courts to get permission to abort after finding out the baby had a condition where at most it'd live  days in agony, that is another example of when i believe its right.

EDIT: i have also been raped and no it's not nice but ppl are allowed to talk about it, don't like it ignore it.

p.s i have been to have an abortion cos of rape and the women i saw are the reason i am against, i was the only person there due to rape, most of then it was along the lines of "i tricked my bf, he found out and left me"

  24. It is a travesty for the mother, but the baby does not lose its rights.
