My 87 yr. old granddaddy was in the Navy. He was telling me about the Navy beans he used to eat on ship. He said they were navy beans to begin with, but after they were cooked for awhile they turned red in color. He's trying to find out a recipe for these old beans. Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks

  1. Are they the red kidney beans used in chilli con carne?

Try a tin of them (from any supermarket) and see if he recognises them.

My Dad was in the RN, too - on Destroyers; he would have been 102 in August.
