Question:

I have a question for those of us that are concerned about whether WE are truly trying to solve crime in T& T?

What exactly are those concerned people doing personally to aid in the effort to rid Trinidad and Tobago of crime? Are WE counseling the youth about a taking a different path in life? Are WE picketing Parliment every day to change sentencing laws? Are WE making sure to vote for change? Are WE writing to the Prime Minister and/or the Guardian and the Express on a regular basis submitting crime solving suggestions? Are WE uncovering and reporting poor police practices to the Commissioner? OR are WE just on Yahoo posting crime stats that don't do a thing but scare away the people that don't know all the wonderful things about Trinidad ( by the way, more scared people, less tourism, less income, less jobs, more crime, you do the math) and aggravate the ones that do?

This is of course just a general question aimed at people......in general......of course ;-)

  1. Crime is everywhere but something must be right in Trinidad for people to be migrating there to live.

OK let me give examples. When you growing up everybody in Trinidad know who had a Mercedes Benz because it was only 2 or 3.  Now is everybody and they mother have one.

You could ever drink a glass of Orchard juice straight without pouring that in a mug and mix with water and sugar.  Now they spending the money and drinking Cranberry juice straight. Cranberry juice?  What the h**l was that? You better find yuh tail outside and pick some lime.

You gone cricket and is very few people used to be drinking Johnny Walker Black.  Now if yuh aint drinking that doh bother coming.

The cheapest house with outside toilet is 3.5 Kajillion dollars and people buying them. The government building 10,000 and that aint enough.

To go a movie is $45 to see one, yuh hear meh, one movie, and people going.

I'm not trying to be funny with this one, but is T&T spending millions on providing work in the smaller caribbean countries.  Yuh know why? 'Cause the by products from those countries are ensuring that Trinibagonians are working in T&T.

In Jamaica they pay, yes pay, for secondary school.

In South Africa our Bethum/Labass area will be a middle class area compared to their shanti towns. (Yes, my black @$$ went to SA).

Crime all over the place.  So people say thank you Jesus, Allah, Mohamad, L. Ron Hubbud, or just God for the blessing our little T&T have.

Oh, and by the way after the US and Canada which is the richest country on this side of the world (Ah not talking GDP) our little SWEET SWEET  T&T.

So yuh see I'm not blind that it have yeah a somewhat high crime rate, but the good things we have by far, by far out weight that.

    God bless us all..

  2. I'm from Trinidad. Well, my mom and family. Hehe.

I love that place soooo much. You don't even understand...

The crime isn't that bad whenever I go (every summer). I just think its bad whenever we go to Chagunas (spell?) because my Aunt got some stuff stolen while she was wearing it.

  3. Gibbs, i KNOW that this question not aimed at anyone in particular.  cause it IS just a general question, not meant to aggravate anyone at all. lol

But i agree with you, when you are not doing anything to actively rid this country of crime, then why are you complaining? why must you bring it on Y!A?  and TS is right, in some parts of Africa, d Beetham and other places that we consider the worse in Trinidad is actually like living in luxary.  Look at Zimbabwe! actually look closer to home, look at Haiti! there are areas where they eat mud to survive.

People remember..we are living in PARADISE!! and even if you have multiple ids and want to make the country look bad, the fact remains, we have it better off than most people living in 1st world countries.  Think about this: we take vacations to US, Canada, England, Europe, take a cruise, there are people in AMERICA who have to save their entire life just to see what NY looks like!! or to take that one vacation to the Caribbean. Dont hate and bring down what we have, cause we have it nice...crime and all!

okkkkkkkkkk! i can see that jachian has issues.

  4. great i love it good idea..thx

  5. of course its not aimed at anyone in particular!!! heheh....

i agree with trinisoccer,, dats all i saying..

  6. Good question girl. It is a given that there is crime in Trinidad and Tobago. So now what? We reporting every time something goes wrong or we get off our backsides and join the fight to do something about it?

I get tired of Trinis beating down our country. I will tell you what. The crime in Jamaica is just as bad or worse than ours. I dare you to find a Jamaican that is willing to tear their country down. They are about promoting the positive aspects of their country and will die before they bad talk it. What is our problem???

  7. Crime is everywhere, and I have to agree with Trinisoccer 100%.

Hey, Trini Posse, long time no see nor hear from.

    How's it going?

  8. Crime in Trinidad is like water flowing downhill......

  9. Listen.

The truth is that Trinidadians are selfish people.

They don't care about anything else as long as crime does not directly affect them.

You see, as long as people have money to spend on cars and other useless things to show off on their neighbours they are Okay !

Only when a very close relative is killed or kidnapped they go on raving and ranting, on and on about the government not doing its job, the currupt police, the disfunctional justice system etc.

These same people did not realise that these systems stopped working 20 years ago.

The only differnce is that now we are reaping the whirlwing.

And it will get much worse !!

You hear stupid peole make comments like:

"Oh, there is more crime in jamaica and the US".

These same people can't see that what happens in Jamaica or the US is irrelevant to the issues.

And besides, Jamaica has about 4 million people. Trinidad bearly has 1.5 million.

Therefore statistically the crime rate is higher in Trinidad.

It is also absolute rubbish that less income means more crime.

From our experience we can see that the more oil and gas dollars we have, the more killings and robberies.

Those of use who have tried to report to the authorities are greeted with scorn. They don't read the letters. They certainly don't pick up the phones when you call.

And if by some miracle you do get in contact with them, They actually make jokes and stupid remarks at you like you are mad.

Imagine reporting a crime and the officer turns around and says, "da is nuttin, da does happen to everybody " !!

    The system is broken !!

None of the things you suggested work. Unless of course, you are a high ranking businessman or public servant. In which case they will bend over backwards to take you seriously.

Because of this I will post things on yahoo that scare away people in an attempt to shame people like you into opening your eyes to what is going on.

For far too long you have been whinning and grinning and feting and eating doubles and enjoying life in this country.

It is about time you stopped thinking about yourself alone and  your frivolous life !!
