simply curious, if you are a vegetarian and you follow the same practices with your children...do you ever eat out? like if you are in a hurry and need to feed them while you're out, how in the world do you get them something at mcdonald's or any other fast food place? is it very difficult to live that way?

  1. ... Don't feed your kids at mcdonalds. Bags of dried fruit, pre-made sandwiches, pasties... it's pretty easy :D Any good supermarket stocks quick eats for vegetarians, and healthy ones. It's all about getting the right balance of nutrients. But NEVER take your kids to  mcdonalds.

  2. Life is busy and sometimes eating out is better (healthier) than  not eating at all. There are vegetarian fast food options it all depends on how strict you are (do you eat fries that are cooked in the same oil as chicken nuggets? like at BK) and how much research you have done. Taco bell has vegetarian options. My favorite place to eat is in&out, you get the burger without the meat (called a grilled cheese) and the only thing they cook in their fryers are fries (which are made from real potatoes).

For me this hasn't really been difficult but if you live in a smaller town or a less veggie friendly region of the country you could have problems. Best to research local fast food restaurants online in advance.

  3. at burger king they have mac and cheese and veggie burgers....

  4. Thanks for posing your question in a respectful manner, I eat out fairly frequently, it's not hard, lots of places have meatless options, and there are always salads if nothing else.  I don't have children, but when I do I will give them vegetarian foods too, but when they get older if they want to eat meat I will let them, my boyfriend still eats meat and it doesn't bother me at all-to each their own right?  I also think in general since going veg it is EASIER to prepare meals than it was when I was cooking meat, plus I feel better.  Hope I helped you :-)

  5. It is not hard to eat out. I go to Subway, Sonic, Taco Bell, and even Burger King because they have veggie burgers. So no, it's not difficult.

  6. Well my friend is vegetarian and when we go out she orders salads. Or at fast food she gets a salad, french fries, or I know I at BK they have a veggie burger.

  7. I am a single vegetarian woman, and i do eat out every know and then...usually restaurants will have vegetarian options, if not, you can request them.

  8. No its not difficult at all. Being a vegetarian any non veg food is useless for me and my siblings. We do not count non-veg food as food.

  9. Fast food is very high in calories and has very little nutrition - why would someone want to feed that to their children? Good nutrition for children can be a bit more time consuming, but it's worth it for their well being - vegetarian or not.

  10. I am a vegetarian parenting 2 vegetarian children. We eat out fairly frequently with no difficulty. We usually choose vegetarian restaurants or  ethnic restaurants (Indian, Thai, Japanese, Greek, Italian etc are all very veggie-friendly). We do not go to fast food restaurants. We do put effort into planning ahead so if we are in a hurry or have a lot to do, we have snacks with us. I have never thought about it being difficult or easy, it just is what it is. I do believe my children are healthier, have broader palates & are more open to new things than they would have been had we not raised them this way.

  11. Burger King has veggie burgers where I live you can make a veggie burger meal, same price as the whopper meal. Very handy. Also Subway has a veggie sub. Another greek fast food place has a vegetarian wrap with something made from chick peas, I forget what its called now.

  12. my girlfriend is a vegetarian and when we goto mcdonalds she orders a double cheese burger without the meat add tomato xtra pickle...she manages    i have been with her for 5 years doing this and i respect the fact she does it just like she respects the fact i eat meat

  13. One of my closest friends is a raw vegan and is raising her daughter as a raw vegan. They eat out occasionally (you know how it is...running errands and occasionally, you forget to pack a snack/ meal) in that type of scenario, they just get fruit/ veggies...I know once, while traveling (I think she was in an airport) she didn't plan on everything taking so long (flight delays and such) she just ordered something off the menu and ate the lettuce/ tomatoes (her daughter was still exclusively nursing...not on any solids yet)

Her hubby and step-kids are not vegan, so they pretty much eat the Standard American Diet (SAD)

I am not vegetarian or vegan, but have never allowed my dd to eat fast food or any processed foods. Since having kids, I am also much more health conscious and no longer eat fast foods or processed foods. So I pretty much just bring sandwiches, wraps, fruits or veggies when out and about. Again, occasionally I'll forget or things will take longer...so I might stop somewhere and get some fruit/veggies.

  14. You can get a salad at McDonald's without the meat on it.  Or like a baked potato from Wendy's.  But vegetarians are usually health conscious, and don't eat fast food a lot.

  15. McDonald's has salads and apples and stuff its not just meat. and basically any fast food place you can always get a salad, or how wendys has baked potatoes.... theres always something. :)

my parents are vegetarians so im some vegetarian because i still live with them. its not very hard at all. but im thinking it would probably be hard if you started off as a meat eater then changed to a vegetarian.

    hope i could help.

  16. I would be prepared and have my own food.

I despise places like Mcdonald's and Walmart and avoid them like the plaque. If we stopped anywhere, it would be an independent small business.

  17. I am close to being a vegetarian - I only eat animals that eat vegetables...............I figure that is close enough.

  18. Vegetarianism has really grown over the last 20-30 years. Most restaurants will have several vegetarian options available.

Most urban areas will have plenty of vegetarian restaurants: western, Indian, Chinese, and so on.

Fast food usually isn't healthy. You don't need to eat at McDonalds; it's cheaper and healthier to buy real food at the supermarket and cook it.

  19. Even if I weren't a vegetarian, I would never feed my child fast food.  Period.  End of story.

All mothers have to plan ahead for their children's nutritional needs.  I know a lot of them just feed their kids fast food, but that's why 1/3 of all kids today are fat pigs.
