I already know about the actions taken about de-forestation like recycling and planting more trees but I'd like to know about other actions I can take to help reduce deforestation that I can do at home and help make a real difference

  1. some people might see this as a stretch, but if you're really serious, cutting down on how much meat(especially red meat) you eat would help. a lot of deforestation is done to make room for either the animals themselves or for food grown to feed the cows and stuff we end up eating ourselves. if even a good part of america could significantly cut down on thier comsumption of this, it would really do some good

  2. In North America there is no deforestation.  The total forest cover here has been increasing since the early 20th century, primarily because the development of modern plastics has reduced the demand for wood.

  3. If you have in mind to stop de-forestation and that too at home..............then reduce the use of polythene and whatever vegetablepeels are there........just use them as manure.......if have the internet.......you could join various groups and clubs and donate free things you have in the garage......they will not go in those landfills and will be used by someone else.....for some of the best groups on the net....visit these site!

you must try to save the trees of your locality too!they depend on good humans to save them as they have no mouths of their own! try to reduce the felling of local trees even if you had to quarell with the man with the axe!

you could also send articles to the local newspaper and get people to help you save those trees!the media will always be there to support you if you have a good idea!

last but not the least!create a group of your own.........with a bunch of great friends you could make a club where you could keep a check on the green belt in your society.....you could for example go to a local school and tell the juniors how they could preserve the environment by reducin polythene ,using bins and donating any waste stuff and using your bicycles for shorter disances and closing taps when not in use!their little minds will be influenced much more faster as they are growing up and look up to their sniors for inspiration!

  4. community sponsoring in third world countries for effective afforestation. pay for sponsored trees just as sponsored children - planted ones- minimal at first with promise of further incentive if trees mature. Without incentives , educating poor people is not too productive. To the poor money is God/ Promise them their God and see the results.

I am not averse to receiving emails from anyone at rajsuri16@yahoo.co.in

  5. how do you think you contribute to de-forestation?  if you live in the US or canada there IS NO DE-FORESTATION.  LOGGING IS NOT DE-FORESTATION!!!!  and if you buy beef raised in the US no land is being cleared for grazing.  i don't know where you people come up with some of this stuff.

  6. many countries are already addressing this problem, in europe particularly every tree cut down is replaced by at least 3 more, however three saplings are not going to replace the work done by a huge tree, we need more of the developed world to do more, third world countries are not the problem, recycling paper is an obvious choice but so is reducing the amount of charcoal we use.
