Heres my question!! It says that both parents need to be present or have a notarized paper stating the other parent gives permision for the oher parent to get the passport for the child! The thing is that the father is not listed on the birth certificate! He lives in a different country! I have no contact with him. Am I still able to get a passport for my child?

  1. if he is not listed on the birth certificate than you should have no problems.  You are her legal gaurdian.  You should be fine.  The reason for having both parents sign is so that someone doesn't run away with the kid.   But since it is only you on the birth certificate I really wouldn't worry at all.

  2. I thought both parents would be required since both parents are required for permission to leave the country however this was on the Passport website

One parents appears, signs, and submits primary evidence of sole authority to apply (such as one of the following):

Child's certified U.S. or foreign birth certificate (with translation, if necessary) listing only applying parent
