Question:

I have a question regarding autopsies?

I know the medical examiner examines the internal organs, but do they reinsert them into the body? And if the brain is removed, is that put back into place and the head sewn back up? I saw footage of one on YouTube (yeah...), and it looked quite messy - to say the least. How do they then ready the body for funeral home viewing?

  1. During the autopsy, all of the organs are removed (also the brain, usually).  When the autopsy and dissection of the organs is complete, the organs are placed into a bag.  the bag is them placed into the chest cavity.  Once the body is picked up by the funeral home, if the person is being embalmed, we remove the bag of organs and pour a special fluid into the bag to help preserve the organs and reduce decomposition of them as well.  We then embalm the body through exposed arteries in the chest cavity.  After the embalming, we put the organs (bag and all) back into the chest cavity and sew it up.  The brain is not placed back into the skull, it stays in the bags with the other organs.  We then proceed as normal with dressing, casketing and cosmetizing the body.

  2. they do rip the body apart and only if the dead person is an organ doner do they take out the organs and leave them out otherwise it all goes back. and the brain is put back. to get it ready for a home veiwing is the worst they just sew the person up and put makeup on him or her.

  3. I would suspect they do and then the people in charge of "making up" the body at the funeral home would make the body as life-like as possible for family and friends of the deceased.

  4. I had a friend to work in to morgue they put your internal organs in a bio bag and sew them up in your chest cavity, the brain I am not sure but they take it from the left side of your head and then they drain the blood from the vains in your feet with two big needles that have fluid coming in as the blood is going out and it has a tint to it so they get the right amount in there.............Email a funeral home and they will tell you I had a funeral home in fla tell me all I wanted to know about regular burial and cremation & I live in Ky............In the state of KY is one does an immediate burial you do not have to be embombed I know a dr who wants that done, no chemicals in her body, and they do not stuff you with cotton either...

  5. i dont think they insert everything back when they are done examining.

dont they stuff the bodies up? i think thats what they do..and then they just sew them up and put make up on them then dress them.
