My girlfriend is italian and she recently came to visit me in the USA. According to her, everytime she comes to the USA customs officials staple a green piece of paper to her passport probably indicating how long she is permitted to stay in the country. And, when she leaves to go back to Italy they always take the piece of paper off her passport.

This last time, they did not take it off her passport. So, it's still there as of today. She is worried that next time she tries to come to america they wont let her in or there will be problems because of this. She went to the embassy in Milan but, like most embassy officials, they were no help, simply telling her to go on the website and read what to do. These stupid embassy officials NEVER help out. I have had problems with them in the USA, London and Italy.

So does anyone know what this paper means, and what the implications are if she doesn't get it removed, and most importantly HOW exactly she is supposed to get it removed?

  1. They may have forgotten to  take it from the passport, just remove it and throu it to the garbagge. Nothing will happens

or get a new passport, said you losted and italians will give you a new passport without any info.  I think they put the paper and they take it so they see that person lleft

  2. I was going to respond with a solution until I read your rant against embassy officials... not the best attitude for someone looking for advice.

  3. you gather more bees with a drop of honey then you will with a bucket of lemon juice   attitude will get you no where  or sarcasm  i travel  around the globe and many times i do need the  informative advice of my US Embassy or consulate  never once was i given bum information or  ignored...  to your question  don't worry about it    the officials will look at entry and exits  stamps  on the passport  also the document is scanned  mellow out upon your next embassy visit and you will be recognized as an intelligent kind person    Semper Fi

  4. In my opinion it makes no sense to take it off or not. As long as she has a stamp that shows she entered her country back she can always show that. Whenever i go to states they never take that paper back, even they never stamp my passport while i am leaving. I don't think that will be an issue.
