Question:

I have a question regarding space travel and the use or ability to transport in space to another solar system?

I have been very interested in this subject lately and feel its very possible that ufos and aliens exist and use some kind of ability to jump around the universe. I have have heard that the the popular grey aliens may come from zeta rittculli 40 light years away. This system has a sun just like ours making the possibility of a planet like ours extremely likely. Due to the fact we are trying to travel in space with fossil fuels from earth and are also trying to travel in a straight line

distant travel seems way off. Will we ever be able to use the environment of space to travel without finding black holes or wormholes?

What kind of technology will we need to go 40 light years without traveling faster than the speed of light?

  1. ve can use tele transport...

  2. there's no sufficient technology in the near future

but the outline of such a propulsion should be something which modifies space itself.

such technology does not exist and will not exist until specific questions in science remain open.

btw. there's no evidence that there are aliens anywhere so if you ever wondered how 'they' travel .... they simply don't travel at all, except in peoples dreams, and scifi episodes

  3. Black Holes are there for scuicidal aliens, and wormholes do not exist. so we cannot use these Trekkie inventions.

The most promising power source is the ion engine which accelerates constantly.  It would still take hundreds of thousands of years to go and return 40ly to Earth on such a trip to your imaginary zeta rittculli, by which time several generations of their ancestors will have died, even though on the USS Enterprise it might only take 50 years.

If I were you I would stick to Star Trek, because the facts are far more bizarre than anything Gene Roosenberg or Steven Spielberg could possibly get inside their little heads.

  4.   It seems to me that warp drive is our only option.

  5. sometimes it amuses me to see the way a few people rattle off

distances like 40 light years without the slightest gasp or pause

in their speaking. One Light Year is roughly Six Trillion Miles. 40

of them would be 240 Trillion Miles give or take a little.

So...the first and most important factor for human travel at those

distances is a complete life system which includes all consumeable

foods, gases, and liquids which will last for the duration of:

    DISTANCE / TRAVEL SPEED / 24 HOURS / 365 DAYS = YEARS.

The second issue to deal with before jacking up the speed of travel is what to do with all of the WASTE from consumed materials? It is rather obvious that since there are no shopping centers along the route, mankind will have to develop some form of first class re-cycling system and on-board factory for each and everything that man needs

in space. So the rocket ship itself will be "huge in size" to contain all

those materials and manufacturing machines to make everything

people need or are allowed to need.

It is also obvious that the huge blast off plumes of smoke from a rocket launch off of the surface of the Earth just get the ship up  and off of the Earth. Massive fuel consumption like that will not continue for the entire voyage because once the ship is up at speed, you just need to maintain the speed, not accelerate it...

Present space craft have managed to accelerate up to around

50,000 Miles per Hour in traveling speed. Over many, many years

a ship could gradually increase that speed if a constant small

accelerating force was applied...but this means transporting lots

and lots of fuel to apply that force.

The fuel will be needed again to slow down at the distant location,

and of course we must consider a return flight or the whole thing begins to resemble a kamakazi flight.

  6. Technology to get us 40 light years away from Earth without using light speed travel only exists on the sci-fi channel. If you watch the history channel, they say that we could create a "worm hole" to jump to a different end of the universe, but that isn't plausible are even achievable.

  7. 10 miles per second is our fastest spacecraft (as of the start of this year).  That converts to 600 miles per minute.  36,000mph.  We can use gravitational influences to farther speed up spacecraft.  Say, to 47,000mph.  Even if we found a way to more than double that figure...  to, hmmmm, 100,000mph, we aould still be covering less distance in one hour than light covers in one second.  I think that breaks down to the nieghborhood of 6700 years to make this journey.

So, it is truly inconceiveable, with current technology, to make a 40 light year trip.  Unless we perfected cryogenics...

  8. Technically you cannot travel faster than light, but you can bypass it.

A scientist believes that Star Trek got it right with the concept of warp drive.  For it isn't the ship that travels faster than light, but rather space moves itself, and from what I understand, space itself can move faster than light.

This scientist says that the Enterprise expands space behind it and compresses space in front of it.  And the ship never moves, and still able to travel light-years in a matter of days.

But it's also possible that the aliens never actually exceed the speed of light at all.  They may actually have found a way to only reach light speed and allow time for them to slow down.  Or much simpler, use an antimatter thruster to build up enough speed, and the crew goes into suspended animation, like on 2001 and the Alien movies.

There are also ideas of a concept called hyperspace, like on Star Wars and Babylon 5.  Where a ship goes into another dimension where the speed of light isn't so limiting.  And even scientist are working on a hypothetical machine called the Z-machine that generates a powerful magnetic field and allows the ship to slip into another dimension.

Or even time travel.  Cause if a ship reaches the speed of light, time slows down.  Meaning the ship still takes 100 years to reach 100 light years at light speed, but only 1 year let's say passes on the ship.  And if the ship can be drawn back in time, it would still take 100 years to reach Earth, but it would be drawn back in time 99 years so only appear that 1 year passed in the universe, even though it never exceeded light speed.

  9. There is no other technology other than using warmholes to travel such a long distances.

Physics forbids to acquire a speed greater than the speed of light but it does not forbids to curve up the space and make a path between two points in universe. So actually, you do not voilate the laws of Physics but try to deceive it.

To understand what a Wormhole is, imagine a pizza bread in which an ant has to make a journey from one end to the other. But if you bend the pizza bread and bring the two ends closer to each other and join the two points, you make the journey of ant easier. This is Wormhole.

For humans, it is still in theory but it is said that Aliens are much advanced as compared to us, so they might have turned this theory into reality.
