Question:

I have a question regarding the homeless?

I see all these people and organizations claiming to care about the homeless problem, but, when you actually contact them for help they tell you to pray or don't even reply. I pray everyday and I am still homeless and living on the streets. They have no problems taking your donations, but, don't want to give anything back to the truly needy. Is there anyone who actually cares? I didn't ask to be homeless, it just happened. I lost my job due to my health, I have tried to find work and no one wants to hire an over-the-hill out of work person with just a high school education. I don't drink or do drugs. Just some really bad luck and pray isn't helping. What can I do? Is there some sort of free training program that a man over 40 can take to get back into being a productive citizen? We can even call it a loan until I can get back on my feet. I really need a job and a safe place to stay. The street is not safe and the shelters are full of thieves and the mentally ill. Can anyone please help

  1. You live in America, right? There is a job for you to do then... If a Mexican without citizenship (no pun intended) can find a job in America, then so can you. What you mean to say is, there are jobs out there, but you think you are too good for them..

Suck it up and find one of these S****y jobs for now. Save up enough for a 1 way ticket to Vietnam and also enough for a VISA. You should be able to find a job teaching English within 1 week. If you work hard enough you should be able to make 3,000USD, and live off of 500usd comfortably. Save 2500 a month and once you feel you have enough to leave that place, then go back to America and start your life over..

BTW... How the f are you on the internet if you're homeless...

  2. (To all those other viewers out there, it is possible to get 'guest' access at some public libraries)

After observing and helping out these organizations on and off, I find that they tend to keep a distance from 'homeless' people even though they claim that they 'care'. Our negative perception of the homeless has been quite embedded in our society that it becomes very difficult for us to overcome it. To be honest, I don't know how to help people who are homeless because everyone has different needs. If you want some free training, perhaps there is a employment centre in your community. These centres provide access to internet, resources on how to find jobs and build resumes, and lists of available employment. I hope this helps.

  3. There aren't really any classes like that. The first thing you need to do is to get out there and look for some help wanted signs. A fast food joint, anything. You have to start somewhere. Get a decent meal with your earned money. put in double shifts. You're not going to magically get off the streets. You can save up for an apartment rental, and slowly get yousrelf back on track. Tony Robbins won't help you. YOU will help you. Get back out there, and start making goals. Achieve those goal. Set higher goals. Pretty soon, you'll be buying your own apartment, or house.

  4. It is not up to them to go out into the streets and collect the homeless the home less have to go to them. go to the

Red Cross, tey will lead in the right direction.

  5. i hate people who judge the homeless as bad people. you are right that a lot of organizations are c**p, but there are good ones out there. i know some in my area that just have shelters that are walk in and set up a program (shelters and meals free or very low cost depending on your situation). just keep trying organizations and i think you will find one soon that will help you.

    good luck

  6. Yeah I'm having my doubts as well. Homeless people usually don't have access to a computer and the Internet in the middle of the night.

On the more serious note, it is hard for a man to pull himself up by his bootstraps when they take away your boots and cut your straps short a few inches. But you cannot make excuses, excuses get you nowhere. You just take the situation as it is and you work on it to the best of your ability. Nobody ever said life was easy or right, but you cannot let your circumstances determine your future. You may be in this predicament for awhile, do what you can when you can to correct it.

  7. you should  put what country you're in. If you're in Australia there's lots of avenues.

  8. well, 20 percent of homeless have psychological problems, mostly due to, oh whatever that doesn't matter. good thing you are not one, which i can tell by you cohesive writting. Listen, all you gotta do is work yourself back up, Knowledge and power are the key. If someone is trying to take advantage of you, use your strenght to take them out, dont let anyone **** you up. Its like a bullie man, you beat a bullie up, he wont bother you again. Read as many books as you can, workout in the streets, you know, pushups, runnig. Good luck man. by the way if you are homeless how can you have access to a computer at 1 am in the morning?

  9. how do you have access to a computer...?

public access computers require use of public facilities (like a town/city library), which require a membership that asks for an address.  in other words, homeless people can't get on a computer unless it's a friend's or something.

ummmm you think I don't CARE about the poor b/c I was asking you how could have access to a computer?  What a moronic thing to say.

  10. Join the carnival, no kidding, they provide you with a place to stay and pay you. It's not easy but it's a sure way off the streets. Just be careful and ask the carnies questions about the different bosses because there are some bosses that will s***w you.

By the way, I am the voice of experience... that is how I got off of the streets once when I was down on my luck and was unwilling to sell my body.

As for the organizations which you spoke of, they are only out to collect money. Women have a difficult time getting help from them. For you being a male it will be next to impossible.

One more thing, praying is like waiting for a train that never comes. If you want something you are going to have to do it yourself.

  11. what city to you live in? Go to a church that offers services (food/shelter) and ask about programs to get you back on your feet. St. Xiaver in NYC has excellent programs.

  12. You need to state what city you are in. Different areas have different programs and the bigger the city, the more programs. Where I live ( Los Angeles ) there are a lot of homeless people of all different types mainly because the weather is good. There are many, many programs here. First the rescue mission services should be able to tell you who else can help longer term. Wherever you are located,  you might try Social Services and ask of what organizations they recommend. There are programs out there to get people back to work, but I don't know a lot about them. Are you living in a car? On the street ? You don't specify.

  13. ...how are you using a computer right now?

  14. You know people..being homeless is a state of being..not a character flaw...and a person CAN have access to a computer without an address--its called a LIBRARY.  And no, you do not need a library card at my public library--you just walk in and sign on.  Plus, the timing of Internet answers is never accurate so to the person who wants to know why this person is on late at night--he's not.  ISP's take their time in delivering things sometimes.

You souind like you don't live in a vey large place; otherwise you would have the resources available to you to figure this out.  How can I help  you?  Even if its just with info, I'd be happy to assist.

Please don't take any of this to heart--I think most people are kind and willing to help--this just isn't the forum for that.  Way too many conservatives and whack jobs here--witness how many "thumbs down" I get now.  Email me.

  15. You don't say if you live in a large city or near one.  So here are some of my ideas.

1.Go to the unemployment office........they have resources on where to get training for you....or cross training......lots of names for it.

    2. Go to a church........and most Catholic churches have a shelter of some type.

4.If you have a disability then go the disability office and see how they can assist you

5.If and when you get employed.......buy a tent and stay in a campground.....you might have to pay something but then you can put your money in a bank......and live safely.....campgrounds have grills, showers and commodes......

6.Go to a welfare office.........they can help you with food stamps........medical.........and sometimes rental assistance or they can direct you to who helps.

7.Contact your county or city hall and see where you can get some government food help.........

8.Make sure your clothes are clean and your personal self is clean.........There are church's and the salvation army that gives out free clothes........you can always stop by a laundry mat and wash your clothes a few times a week..

9.Go to a beauty school for a hair cut.....it is super cheap.  Always shave........get your razors from a church or salvation army or a dollar store......

10.You can be poor and homeless........but you can also be clean and it makes you a prouder person.

I LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA........AND I SEE THE HOMELESS WHO HAVE NO VEHICLE BUT A BACK PACK........LAP TOP........AND A CELL PHONE........THEY CHARGE THEM UP OUTSIDE OF QUICK STORES AND SERVICE STATIONS............THEY SIT ON THE FRONT GRASS OF MOTELS WHO HAVE FREE INTERENT.....AND THEY ARE ON THE INTERNET.

  16. Wow, I just wanted to say I am sorry that some people have been really rude to you on here.  I'm glad others took the time to offer help.  I hope their suggestions help you.  I will pray for you!

  17. first of all don't be to proud to take whatever job you can. mcdonalds may not appeal to you but guess what? they pay above minimum wage. beings that you are homeless i am assuming you are using a public computer use the access to go onto snagajob.com or craigslist.com, monster.com or careerbuilders.com or something similar. good luck. i do feel your pain. i am in my 40's and want to go back to work now that my daughter is grown but i can't find one either. they all hire teens nowadays. i am fortunate that my husband has a good job that keeps us housed and fed but i still want a job so we can get some college money together for our daughter.

the shelters and homeless organizations will help the helpless first. the ones who cannot take care of themselves . since you are able bodied that leaves you out.

  18. Start out small or find a shelter... Seek help. Anyway you can. Don't give up, this is america.

  19. Why cant you stay wherever your typing this from for awhile. Im over 40 with a HS diploma and just got a very good job. Soap is cheap, pick up some clothes at Goodwill and put in some applications then try to get government housing for awhile. Its based on what you make. You can make it happen.

  20. Can you make it to southern Iowa?  I could let you help us on our farm and we're only a few miles from the local community college....Just an idea.

  21. I was  homeless too, I was asking people on the streets for money... I prayed, ot a job and thanks to God I am ok for year and yaers even if I never work again.....  I was in your shoes before.. the way I got out is I realiZed that no one was going to save me , God was there, but it was ultimately up to me... what was I going to do ? where was I going to go? never got an answer, just things started  happening, oppurtunities started coming.... dont condenmn yourself for being on the streets, accept it    allow things to happen, but at the same time make things happen too.. I was there too and I am same person then, as I am now ,but I just live better thanks to God and when you do go apply for a job, my advice is not to tell them that you are homeless...Do not tell them, this is just a temporay time in your life, its not permanent, nobody needs to know
