  1. The key is set in the router, if there is a key.  Make sure you're trying to connect to the right network (ssid).

You can't seem to find the key?  It would have been best if you'd posted what you'd tried.  Login to the router, look at wireless security settings.

  2. Try going to

    http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1

    use admin for the password.

Should be able to see it there, unless someone changed the default password on the router.  Will be under Wireless Security.

  3. Here's another quick link to find your computers IP address: http://www.networkmagic.com/myip.php

Is it really that simple? Yup. :)

    Hope this helps!

  4. network key is something that you created at the time of the router installation so try remembering it or tell your frn

  5. I always put masking tape on the top of my router (not over any vents) and write the passwords and encryption keys for reference.

Try logging onto the router admin page and go to Wireless Security.  Usually the wireless passkey is visible in the "encryption key" field.

    Common admin pages:

    http://192.168.0.1

    http://192.168.1.1

    http://192.168.2.1

If you didn't change the admin page password use this:

    user: admin

    pass: admin

If you can't get into that (say forgot the password) you'd have to reset the router and re-setup everything like when you got it.

  6. You have to launch into the router's software, and find the encryption key there.  This has to be done on the main computer, or whichever computer is connected directly to the router.  If there is none, you have to connect one in order for you to find the WEP key.  The IP address for the router's interface 192.168.1.1.  Type that into internet explorer and it will take you to the Linksys page.  Once you connect to the interface, you may be asked to enter a username and password.  Look for the setup tab, then look for something that says wireless or something like that, then you will look for wireless security or something worded to that effect.  This is where you will be able to find out what the network key is.

  7. that is right the ip on a linksys is 192.168.1.1

and you could use admin as password

by default there is no wep key on any linksys router, so it is a 'custom made' key

another fact is that you need a 10 digit hex for the wep key

so u could try entering your friend's phone # starting with the area code ie 562XXX0000

if that doesnt work then you will need to access the router
