I have a quick set pool and the ph is too high?

It took two days to fill the darn thing up. But now it is and I have followed the instructions that came with the pool. We live in New Mexico and our water is very hard, as such I filled the pool with hose water, which is as far as I know not attached to the water softener.

The only chemicals I have added are some 1inch chlorine tablets in a floater and its been in there for about three hours, I just checked the water with a test strip and it says that the water's ph is too high, but chlorine is low. The filter has been running all day too.

I guess what my question is, should I just leave it up to the filter or do I need to add some ph minus or something? This is also our first pool as you can tell.

It is a vinyl type quick set pool from walmart, not a in ground or anything fancy like that.

The filter will not impact the pH level.  You need to add muric acid (or pH Minus, etc.) to lower the pH level.  Chlorine tablets are good for maintaining chlorine levels, to a degree, but you probably also want to buy liquid chlorine or chlorine powder shock to get those levels up (you can also use regular chlorine bleach, making sure is it NOT detergent (or color safe bleach)).

Do not transport the chlorine and acid, particularly if both are in liquid form, together; and do not mix the two!  Can be lethal.

its great to use a sequestering agent to help filter out the minerals in the water weekly and whenever you add any water. next time to fill tie a bunch of socks to the end of your garden hose to help filter out the minerals in the water. use some ph down to bring the ph level back to where it needs to be. shock it with some chlorine to help sanitize the water and do it of a evening when the suns down and it will not evaporate near as much and its great because no one will be in it overnight and gives it time to take effect.
