  1. That's a real shame. Learning a language should be a wonderful experience. Just remember that there will be other teachers in high school whom you may or may not like. Don't let a personal feeling about a teacher prevent you from learning something you really enjoy. buena suerte.

  2. get a private tutor or something like that.

  3. Stick with it, especially if you will be able to have a different teacher in high school.  It's a wonderful and very useful language.  There's been an explosion of free and low cost language learning products that you can use to supplement your class. If your parents are willing to pay for it, you can get excellent tutoring for between $15 and $45 an hour.

The internet has great resources, podcasts, websites with worksheets, etc., but they're mixed in with lots of bad ones.  Even if your teacher is a terrible classroom teacher, he may know what supplementary materials would be good for you.  If not, ask the local high school Spanish teacher, high school students taking Spanish, or if you get a tutor, he or she will know.

My favorite is a great free podcast called Notes in Spanish (www.notesinspanish.com) which is done by a husband/wife in Madrid.  Both are language teachers, but there's a twist--she's a native of Madrid, he is from England and has been living in Madrid for 9 years.  They start at beginner levels and go up to really really advanced. They are not aimed at middle school students, rather adults learning Spanish.  I don't mean they're "adult" as in having inappropriate content for a middle schooler, just that the themes may not be interesting to you.  It matters less for the beginner podcasts, but recent intermediate topics have included the controversy surrounding the Olympics.  It's free though, so might as well give it a try.

Another that is supposed to be good is www.spanishpod.com, which has more beginner materials.  I haven't used the beginner stuff, but I have friends who like it.

    Good luck!

Oh, if you do stick with it, there are low cost trips to Spain and Mexico for the summer for high school students.  Study abroad, if you take it seriously and live with a family instead of hanging out with your American classmates, is by far the best way to learn a language. I did the American Association of Teachers of German trip ten years ago for $1500 including airfare, all classes, homestay, and all of my meals for two months.  It was a pretty easy sell to my   parents.  I was closely supervised in a small town, I got a full year of advanced German in two months, and it looked good on my college application.

  4. absorb as much as you can, it can be tough to enjoy something when your teacher isn't the best to deliver the material but don't let one person stand in the way of what you want, trust me, i'm 27 i wanted to be a Social Worker but i had a run in with an AWFUL social worker-He was my social worker and he impacted me so much that I changed my major from social work to nursing, to criminal justice to law and now finally at 27 I have a new job that is in the Social Work field and I love it, i have wasted alot of time bouncing around from major to major when all along i've known what i wanted to do and because of one person i let it get in the way..hang in there..Si se puede. Buena Suerte!

  5. Join the club.

  6. Just wait it out. I just finished up my senior year at high school, and I took all the way up to Spanish 5 honors. I had a really awful teacher in middle school too (she was literally satan lol). When you get to high school, things will get better and hopefully you will enjoy spanish more. =) Don't let one idiot teacher ruin it for you, cause you may have great ones in the future like I did.
