  1. Allot of viruses are not deliberate, their just poor quality programs that don't run properly, malware is designed for deliberate destruction deleting everything it can get hold of

  2. To clean up your PC, give this a try:

Update your anti-virus, remember to only have one anti-virus installed on your PC

    Download SuperAntiSpyware

Restart your PC in safe mode, and run a full scan with both.

While in safe mode, you may also want to have a look at your start up items by using msconfig.

Be careful with the items you uncheck, you can have a look here to see if they are necessary

You should also have a look at your IE Add-ons while in safe mode.

Disable any you do not use.

After you reboot back to normal mode, download and install ccleaner to fix any registry problems and clean up old temp files.

  3. Download a free antivirus like AVG, Avira, Avast, BitDefender, PC Tools, etc. No, they don't wipe out everything on your computer.

  4. No, virus removal programs will not delete your saved stuff. However, if one of your pictures or songs is infected by a virus then it may need to be deleted.

  5. You may be having a virus or spyware installed on your PC. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers.

You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
