  1. My very best BFF put her daughter up for adoption back in 1989. It was an open adoption and she did get letters about how the baby was doing along with pictures and she was encouraged to write letters and send pictures as well.

*B* was told at a very young at that she was adopted, that her bio-parents loved her so much, that they wanted her to have a much better life than they could give her.

When *B* (the child) was 11...she wanted to meet her bio-family and contact was made, they set up a time and place to meet and things went very very well. When *B* was about 12 1/2, her adoptive-parents got a divorce and *B* actually came and spent some time with her bio-parents (they have been together forever - they were into drugs and a very bad lifestyle back when *B* was born - but they've been clean and very successful since 1996) Anyway.....*B* spends a whole month in the summer, winter breaks, spring breaks and various other times during the year with her bio-parents and everyone gets along beautifully.

It can happen and I wish everyone the best of luck..

You're welcome hon....I really hope everything works out....(((hugs)))

  2. I haven't had an open adoption but my friend put her baby up for adoption with an open adoption. She has never gotten to see or speak to her but gets pictures and letter updates from time to time.

  3. Tread carefully.  Many promise open adoption and really have no intention of keeping it open.

It's many times a 'lure' they will befriend you and then cut you off as soon as the ink is dry on the surrender papers, and you will have no recourse.

Good luck finding someone who will keep their word.
