okay so how do I put a dvd player onto my computer?

  1. the above is true...  you do need to buy a DVD-ROM or better in order to read the DVDs.

    But in addition to that, you are going to need software to play the DVD.  SOme DVD-ROM drives will come with this, many will not.

    However there is one catch bigger than both of those.  Even if you get all that your old PC still might not work as a DVD player.  If your CPU is not fast enough to do the MPEG2 decoding (or if your graphics card does not have hardware decoding) you'll still be out of luck because your video will look choppy and artifacted.

    When looking at DVD software pay close attention to recommended hardware listed on the box somewhere.  If your computer doesn't beat this minimum by a fair margin say, 25% you can assume that you won't get your money's worth our of the experience your PC can provide.

    Expect to pay $30 or less for the DVD-ROM and around $50 for the software.  (might be more than this if you purchase in a retail store)


  2. First you need to install a DVD ROM not DVD player and just purchase a DVD ROM and hook it to your PC and insert CD for Installation process
