I have a red, translucent stone that is amorphous, exhibits conchoidal fracture, and shows flow patterns.?

The stone weighs about 2 1/2 pounds. When held to the light, it has a beautiful ruby color. It truly looks like obsidian, but I have never seen this color before. It is not mahogany obsidian, but what is it?

  1. Carnelian agate might be the thing. You should describe where you got it and if you know the hardness. Carnelian would be a 7 on the Moh's scale. The fracture sounds right.
