I have a red banana tree that was doing very well until a huge flower grew out of the center.?

It has not grown any new leaves since before the flower bloomed. The tree does not appear to doing very well. The trunk it still green however all the remaining leaves have died off. I removed the flower and still no new leaves. Any suggestions?

  1. Plants expend a huge amount of energy developing flowers and fruits, and often have little extra energy to put into growing new leaves.

    By removing flowers or developing fruits, you force the plant to try again.

    It may be too late for your banana; however, new shoots may develop from the crown of the plant.

    Don't give up on it!


  2. Once a banana stem has flowered it is finished.  There should be new shoots arising from the base of the plant.  There could be some disease attacking the plant.  Did it get too dry?
