I have a retainer question. Please help!

Hello everyone!

I had my braces taken out about four years ago and the orthodontics had placed a metal retainer behind my bottom front teeth. I noticed that there is this hardening, white solid stuff underneath the retainer. I've tried flossing, using a toothpick, everything to get it out but it seems to be permanent...

can someone please help me out to what it might be?

sorry, if it's not so descriptive! :/

& thank you very much!

  1. Brush your teeth more.

  2. It might be plaque buildup, but I'm not entirely sure.

If it concerns you, you could always make an appointment with an orthodontist to have it checked out. :)

Good luck.. sorry I wasn't much help! :l

  3. im a dental assistant, you need to go to your dentist..not your orthodontist, and get a cleaning. it sounds to me like a build up of tarter.

  4. When you pay for Orthodontia it is usually for the life of treatment.  I don't know what this is that you have but I am assuming you go for regular cleanings every 6 months so it isn't a build up of plaque.  Call your Ortho and ask to be seen....
