  1. so sorry to hear just remember that a cruise ship is much more than a reg boat they have every thing in control things like Poseidon and titanic are not regular venue the ships made today are well equipped for safety. why not try a 3 day cruise first and see how that goes you will be so amazed that this is a floating city not like a boat at all its great. well dear good luck and hope this is a bit of help .

  2. Get yourself a dingy & a rubber ring then go to a shallow river and have lots of fun!! or buy a cd with the sound of the sea(on a bad day if poss) and play with your dingy in your living room imagining you are crossing the Atlantic to raise money for charity.

On a more sensible note, why not try acuputure?

Phobias can take over your life, try and think only a few hours sailing can lead you to days of fun, fun, fun!!

  3. I have cruised about 18 times in 25 years, on the large PO ships, and there is nothing better.  In that time the ships have become even more stabilized and most of the time you are unaware that you are moving.  If feeling unwell, always lie down flat, don't have an empty stomach!

Patches are now available from the Doctor before you leave.  I think you need at least a week at sea to acclimatise.     I have never yet felt unwell and have been in some gusty weather.

You won't know until you try!!

  4. You're obviously very interested and I commend you for trying to get overt this phobia.

Cruise ships are very large and truly are floating cities.  The ships are so quiet and smooth that you will not even feel the ship moving.  Yes, wind and rough seas may cause some motion and there is a rare chance you may experience motion sickness.  If so, call the doctor on board.  The dr. will wither give you some medication or an injection and you'll feel better very quickly.  To avoid this (and ease your fear of sailing) I would recommend  a cruise in either the Mediterranean or in the Caribbean where the sailing is generally very smooth.

I would also tell you to stay away from an inside cabin. Think you'd' be better off in a cabin with a window or balcony, as I believe being in an inside cabin, where you have no windows (its dark in there day or night without a light), would probably be a bit frightening. You'd never know if it was dark or light outside or what the weather was like and that would be a bit out of the norm.

Think it would be great if you tried a short cuise - 3-4 days - and do make it on a cruise ship rather than some kind of ferry, etc.  Those are not cruises.

Think you're very brave and I'm sure once you've cruised you'll be as addicted to cruising as the rest of us are.

    Bon Voyage!

  5. Go for it..I did and loved everything about it apart from 2 things....I was sick as a pig coming back  through the bay of biscay and the company I was with....It was my honeymoon and she was an evil cow.....Oh they gave me stuff to stop the sickness....I suffered her for 5 years....

  6. This begs the question WHY would you want to go on a boat if you don't like sailing. Don't do it. Look what happened to the Titanic. You're frightened for a good reason.

  7. Do what I did.I was petrified of water, then went on a months cruise.....kill or cure.It cured me , and I have been on loads of cruises, learnt how to swim and scuba dive.Go for it.
