I have a samsung subwoofer

Question

I have a samsung subwoofer that has 2 "red and black" or pos and neg inputs on the back and thats it, no volume k**b or anything. I have found at radio shack a cord that lets me plug in at pos and neg and then plug into my receiver as a "prong." I still have no sound. whats the problem?
