my ex came over and he started it by putting a pair of pliers on something that sparked and it started. i put a new ignition switch on it because it wouldn't shut off by itself. i have to put my shoe over the carburator. any suggestions? thanks.

  1. solenoid seems right to me.

if it won't shut off, maybe the cable that operates the choke is not working properly.

that cable closes the choke to make the mower shut off.

if that choke is open when your trying to start it, i don't know how it starts up without the choke being CLOSED FIRST.

    check that linkage.

    good luck to ya.

  2. Your ex jumped the start solenoid. you have to replace it. it is easy to do. I am not sure if it is built in to the starter on the sars. lol just kidding. Anyway if it is part of the starter you need a starter. Its not a very pricey repair.
