At the job fair. MassMutual mentioned that they are offering salary based first year advisors between 55-65k, car, bonus, benefits package, health insurance or more. Does anyone out there currently work as a first year agent? How do you like it? The sales manager quoted, "Some of our first year agents make $110k." They've done very well.

  1. You should ask the sales manager how many new agents fail in the first year. I have never seen a new agent make 100K.

The washout rate in this business is about 80-90%.

Sales managers hire in volume hoping they will find someone that can survive in this business.

They will make you think your are the best prospect they have seen in a long time, they are selling MassMutual. Remember they got where they are by being good salespeople.

  2. The sales manager is entirely correct.  Some do make 110K.  Those people make it to the Freshman Five.

Ask the General Agent (or sales manager) if he has ever trained a person who made it to the Freshman Five.

F5 are the top five rookies in that year.  It is tough, tough, tough to make it that good.  You probably will not make it if you are someone who wants security.  If you mentally 'need' a guaranteed regular income, you certainly will not be one of the best.

If you are a person who accepts competition and challenges, you have a chance.

You are probably not going to be able to fool the experienced manager.  Please do not try to fool the interviewer.  If you are not cut out for this industry, find out now.

Some thirty-seven years ago I started with MassMut.  They are the ones I got the license with way back then.

    The company is great.

They have great products.  Incredibly great.

    And they have great people.
