Question:

I have a septate hymen...Help!?

Okay, so, for a long time, I couldn't figure out why it was hurting to insert a tampon. I had a few scary incidences taking tampons out too. I just found out that I have a septate hymen and need some advice. Should I get it removed by the gynecologist or wait until I'm married and have s*x? I want to be able to use tampons but I don't want to spend money on something that could be solved after I get married (in about four years maybe sooner). Also, I've heard that not all women with the same problem as me get their hymen to break during s*x. Please, if anyone could give me some feedback, that would be awesome. Thanks :)

  1. If your problem is "typical" meaning you only have a singular band of additional tissue running across the entrance of the v****a, then I say have the gynecologist simply snip the septum.  Your hymenal ring will still be intact; you'll just be eliminating the extra band of tissue across the entrance.

Think of it this way:  Make a circle with your thumb and forefinger; now take the forefinger of your other hand and lay it across the diameter of the ring of the first hand.  That finger (representing the septum) is what the doctor would be excising.  It'll not effect your "virginity" in any way, so I say just have it done!  Why suffer another 4 years (give or take) when the problem can be solved in a matter of moments.

  2. Im a guy, but my girlfriend has a septate hymen. She was a virgin when we had s*x the first time, recently, and she hurt really, really badly. I read up all I could on septate hymens on my own, but she went to a gynacologist who is going to cut it in a couple of weeks time.

Its up to you really. My girlfriend hurt really bad and it didnt break, just a lot of blood. It might break for you though, "Naturally". However, the gynecologist is an assured and safe way to break it, plus your first time wont be as painful as it most likely would be if you got it broken. You could wait until you are married and then go to the doctors and until then use pads. But yeah, my girlfriend says that the "smaller" hole made problems with tampons. At the end of the day, a trip to the gynecologist will get a medical opinion and you don't HAVE to do anything.

  3. It would be a lot safer and probably less painful to have your doctor take care of this now...That way you will feel more comfortable using a tampon and when you do have s*x for the first time it will not hurt as bad and will be less likely to bleed.

  4. Since virginity has to do with s*x, not an intact hymen, I would suggest you get it taken care of by the gynecologist.

Way back when girls were kept from doing sports, stuck in big skirts and could hardly move, much less do something that would cause the hymen to break, a broken hymen was an indicator that the girl probably not a virgin. But today many girls break their hymen in sports. Equestrians, gymnasts, soccer players, few have intact hymens when they first have s*x.

So don't worry about the marriage thing. Not having a hymen will make that first experience less painful and stressful, definitely a plus. A septate hymen is harder to break, and far more painful than a "normal" hymen, and breaking it often causes enough pain and trauma it can effect your s*x life for the rest of your life.
