I have a sharp pain in my neck when I turn my head to the left, any advice?

Earlier today I was fine but all of a sudden I had a sharp pain where my shoulder meets my neck on the left side, and it only happens when I try and turn my head to the left. I can turn my head to the right without any pain whatsoever. I've been putting a hot water bottle on it every 20 minutes or so, but it's still the same. I've taken some aspirin which has taken away some of the pain but it's still very painful. I have no health insurance, so I cannot go to the hospital for this, as it's too expensive without.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. HOW WEIRD I JUST WOKE UP WITH THE SAME PAIN AND ITS REALLY SCARY.. I DONT THINK I COULD HAVE SLIPPED A DISK IN MY NECK WHILE I WAS SLEEPING BUT I DONT KNOW.. I HAVE INSURANCE SO I CAN GO TO THE DOCTOR YOU CAN GIVE ME YOUR EMAIL SO AFTER I GET BACK FROM THE DOCTOR I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAID IS WRONG WITH ME, BECAUSE WHATS WRONG WITH ME IS PROBABLY THE SAME FOR YOU...

I just got back from the doctor and they gave me a prescription for muscle relaxers and 800 mg of ibuprofen so you could just take alot of ibuprofen since you dont have insurance, the doc said it should go away within a week or so which sucks but my mom said it should go away within a couple of days but im not sure. so hopefully yours isnt as severe as mine because i cant even hold my head up straight, i have to hold it bent to the right to avoid this pain.

I just did this and I can turn my head slowly to the left now.  hold your hands together behind your back and pull them up as far as you can, now try turning your head to the left until you get that pain, now hold it there and take a deep breath, keep doing this and you should be able to turn your head slowly to the left. you will still have the pain but it will improve a lot. try and relax your muscles when you do this as much as you can.

  2. possess as much information as you could maybe is one of the options, however it is quite time consuming, here is the resource i have ever had good experience.http://health-insurance.tips4free.info/h...

  3. The pain should go away in a few days. Until then you should ice it for no longer than 15 minutes every hour. You can try massaging the muscles on the back of your neck on that side. There is a large muscle in the front of your neck that runs from the back of your ear to your collarbone. You can massage that muscle by squeezing it. You can also massage the large muscle in your shoulder. You know the meaty one that you can easily grab. Because the pain is sharp it's best to ice it now. When the pain starts to get dull you can begin applying heat. It's going to take a few days maybe even a week to heal.

  4. No, don't go to the hospital. It sounds like just a pulled muscle. Take 800mg of motrin or ibuprofin (that's usually 4)... depending on if they are over-the-counter or prescription strength. That will help with the swollen muscle. And you can take it about every four hours (with food or you'll feel sick), but no sooner. Also, heat works better than cold. Use a heating pad and slowly move your neck and head around after a bit. But don't over-do it.

  5. I was on a slip and slide a few months ago and I landed funny. For the next week it hurt to turn my head (either direction but left was worst) and if I laid on a bed and tried to lift my head, it was painful.

I just pulled a muscle so some ice and pain killers, though never really quelled the pain, kinda numbed it.  It took about a week to go away completely, but it got considerably better after 2 days.

If you're willing to wait two days, then I say hold out and see if it gets any better. If it does, it's just a pulled muscle. ^_^
