  1. I have two solutions.

Solution #1: Get a bucket and fill it with warm water. Add a half to a whole box of baking soda to the bucket of water and stir. Put the shirt in the bucket for 24 hours. After 24 hours wash shirt as you normally would.

OR - Lay the shirt flat on a towel. Spray the letters with water to wet them thoroughly and sprinkle baking soda over the wet letters until they are completely covered. Let sit for 24 hours and wash as usual.

Solution #2: Get a bucket and fill it with warm water. Add 16 to 32 ounces of white vinegar to the warm water in the bucket and soak your shirt in the vinegar/water solution for 24 hours. After soaking, wash as you normally would.

If neither of these solutions works, use the shirt as a dusting cloth or any other type of suitable rag.

OR return it. If you do not have the receipt and they will not take it back – donate it and let someone else deal with the problem.

Someone else may not find the smelly letters offensive OR maybe that was why it was donated in the first place – SMELLY LETTERS!!!!!

I can’t think of anything worse than smelly letters.

  2. Wash it again but this time, don't put it in the dryer.  It's the heat of the dryer that is bad for it and kind of burns the lettering, making it smell.  I hope this helps.  I've had that problem too so I know exactly what you mean.  When you wash it this time, maybe try putting it in the machine by itself so it has lots of room to swoosh around in the soapy water too.  Then, you'll have to dry it on a line or whatever other place is convenient for you but not in the dryer.

  3. put it in a paper sack with charcoal for a few days. If that fails soak it in water with 1/2 a box of baking soda. Never run across this before, but these things do work for smells.

  4. I've never heard that before! Maybe the owner of the shirt was a smoker! hmm.. try Oxy clean or try some laundry detergent that eliminates odor
