I have a shotgun that has a name engraved on it. How can I get rid of it? What is the cheapest way? ?

probably grind it off, then polish over the grind.  if its blued, then reblue over it.  if not, or if its not coated in anything, then you can probably get away with just grinding and polishing.  it should look fine.

Burn, scratch out your name then bury it.

How deep is it?

Is there any other scrolling on gun?

There is no real cheap way to rid there name, and make it back to new.  But you maybe able to have a gunsmith engrave smothing over it, to blend it in.  

If it is just scratched in the blueing, you maybe able to get a cheap $15-$20 self blueing kit to cover it up.

Again, depending on the severity of the marks and whether the name is engraved in the metal or stock, the cheapest thing to might be to just replace the stock...or go to Wal Mart and get you a new 870...

I'd be happy to trade you for an exact same model shotgun sans engraving, provided the engraved name on yours is something along the lines of "Wyatt Earp", "Doc Holiday", or "Billy the Kid", for example.

The only two options besides leave it alone are:

Have a gunsmith weld over the engraving and grind down to original dimension and refinish the metal.

Second (depending on location) hajewelerewler make a small plaque with your name and have a gunsmith attach with tiny screwrivetsivits to cover up the engraving.

Why not accessories in the part where the engraving is, so that it can be covered it's one of the cheapest way. But it would be much better if you could just buy a new one in that way the engraved part won't be any problem for you.

A way to get rid of it is: selling the shotgun. That way works if the shotgun is yours. If you found the shotgun, surrender that thing to a police office. I think they could find the owner. By taking fingerprints. i don't know another way...
