  1. Don't have it "euthanised" that costs too much. Put it outside in the woods or ghetto when no one is looking and run home. Say it ran away and get a new one. Good luck!

  2. Your rat does not have  a nose bleed. She basically has a runny nose, rats snot is a red color often mistaken for blood. It's called porphyrin. It sounds like your rat has a severe upper respiratory illness and needs a trip to the vet.

  3. This sounds like severe illness with your rat, and unfortunately, I do not think there is much hope for your rat right now. The best thing to do is say goodbye to your rat peacefully, and have her euthanized at the veterinary center.

The losing weight and bladder issues sound to me like wet tail, although as a vet, I have never seen bleeding with wet tail symptoms.

If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me. I will try and post, in a few days another answer after I speak to my chief veterinarian, my boss, and see what he thinks is the problem.

Although, I do think it's best to euthanize your rat as soon as possible, because it'd be devastating to come home to a rat that has passed away.

    My sincere apologies.

  4. In all likelihood it is not blood you are seeing coming from her nostrils, but rather porphyrin.  This substance is excreted when rats are sick or stressed.

The weight loss, lack of bladder control and inability to move properly are all serious signs.  She needs to see a vet immediately.  Call and make an appointment for today.  The vet will be able to run tests to determine what is wrong with her, or will be able to humanely perform euthanasia.  She needs immediate help and it is up to you to get that for her.

    Good luck.

  5. it could be many illness cancer, ring worm, and many other things take her strait to the vet.

  6. I would recommend you see a small animal vet ASAP.  I don't know if she's at the point that she should be euthanized or not; she might still be able to be saved.  There can be a number of reasons why this is happening to your rat, so your best bet is the vet.

"Blood" from the nose is probably porphyrin which is a natural secretion by rats.  It occurs when the rat is stressed or commonly when a cage is not clean enough.  Based on the symptoms you described, I don't think it's enough to pinpoint what exactly is wrong with her.  Your vet can run tests to help figure it out, or recommend euthanasia if necessary.

Hope that helps and good luck!
