I have a sidekick 3 and I am using a wired stereo headset. I am getting many complaints about echo.?

What can I do? Is this an issue with my phone of the handsfree technology? I have found success turning down the volume, but then I can barely hear the caller. Is there something I can do in the settings? I am getting a new phone in september but I would like to settle it now since I love hearing the caller in both ears, I just want them to be able to talk to me without hearing themselves.

It's a problem with the headset quality. With some headsets at top volume the audio can feedback electrically between the speakers and the mic because the wires run next to each other. Try a different or higher quality headset and see if it still happens.
