and some have gone a bit tarnished as anyone got any ideas how to make them gleam again. thankyou

DO NOT use steel wool or SOS pads or anything abrasive.   Only an idiot would tell you that.   Use Gorham's silver polish,   get it?   SILVER POLISH.

My mother-in-law has a load of old silver she hated to use because she dreaded polishing it, until I showed her this super-easy trick...take a large pan (like a roasting pan) or you can even use the kitchen sink.  Line it with aluminum foil, then put warm water and baking soda ( a good amount) in it.  Dump the silver in, and the tarnish just disappears as soon as it touches the foil.
