  1. Is it fleas or ticks? Ticks aren't really so mobile or fast.

If it's fleas, get a flea comb and a bowl of hot water. Comb the pup, and dip the comb in the water.

You could also contact your vet and ask for safe ways to kill the fleas at his young age. Most flea medications are for much older animals.

  2. YOUR PUPPY IS TOO YOUNG FOR FLEA MEDS AND SHAMPOOS JUST BATH HIM IN WARM WATER AND USE A BABY SHAMPOO IT MIGHT NOT GET RID OF THE FLEAS BUT HE WILL BE FRESH AND CLEAN DONT GET WATER IN HIS EARS THIS WILL CAUSE INFECTIONS........ AND SAME WITH THE EYES USE A WASH CLOTH TO WASH HIS FACE

  3. Why do you have a 6 week old puppy to begin with? He's too young to be weaned, let alone getting tick medicine. Why are you keeping him in a flea-infested place to begin with (as others said, it sounds like fleas, ticks are slow)? Even if you do get rid of the fleas on him, it won't matter unless you cure the original problem... getting the fleas out of whatever dump you are keeping him in, need to get an exterminator in there pronto!  Get him to a vet so he gets proper care. Especially seeing as he is so young, the dog lovers here would feel much better knowing that a professional made sure he is safe and healthy.  I know puppies are awesome, but they are a huge responsibility.  I suggest you do some searches on puppy rearing and get him to a vet soon!

  4. Put a glop (I don't know if that's the technical term, but I doubt it) of Vaseline on the tick this will smother the buggar, and you can get it later.  Don't bother to try to pull them off.  If you leave the head in your pup, it can become infected, and you'll have a very sick puppy.

Proticall for dogs may be used on puppies as young as 4 weeks - BUT this product's active ingredient is permethrin.  Unfortunately, permethrin is a neurotoxin (may cause seizures), as well as a carcinogen.  You will have to decide whether the danger from the ticks is greater than the risk of using permethrin.

    Talk to you vet

    Good luck.

By the way, if you have ticks in your house, you should treat the house, as well.

  5. ticks do not run real fast.. so you are probably talking about fleas

a 6 week old puppy should be with mom and littermates in order to obtain VITAL socializing skills...

  6. Ticks run real fast? Just slam 'em with a brick, they're not that fast!!

He is not too young for tick medication. Get Frontline spray, it can be used from 2 days of age and treats fleas and ticks. NEVER use any flea, tick or worm medication from a pet store!! Go to a vet, they can give you what you need. Hopefully you've been to one already and started his worming regime at least.

    Chalice

EDIT: Good point Aussie Mom - I don't think you're even talking about ticks. They don't run, they're not fast. Are they small, black things by any chance? These are fleas. For the love of God take the pup to a vet, you have a lot of learning to do. And ignore the people on here who are saying 'he's too young for flea and tick medication' because he isn't, he's plenty old enough for Frontline Spray.
