I have a skunk that comes around every night.?

Question

Are they dangerous to cats? I know they can dispense a bad smell but is there any thing else it might do to my yard? I try to stay away from it so I don't scare it (Help)

I have 5 cats, and 3 skunks.. they like the cat food, so cute, I tried to take their picture but they just ran away.  didnt try to spray me or anything

they were coming around for the kitty food - we had a bowl in the barn.  and they were living in there..

well anyhow they can carry rabies, so keep your cats vaccinated

none of my cats have been sprayed yet.

As long as your cats are vaccinated they are usually smart enough not to get sprayed.  Skunks could set up housekeeping if they find your yard safe and food plentiful.  So it is best to keep pet foods away from them.  Try putting the food dish in at night and they will likely stop coming around as frequently.  They will always come around for a snack of insects, but I find that is good for my garden because I do not use sprays. They do come in conflict with other wildlife once in awhile so I can smell that they have been around, but the smell dissipates after a few days and it doesn't happen very often.

As long as you leave them alone..they will leave you alone.  Cats are usually smart enough to steer clear of them..while dogs chase them and get sprayed.  Just make sure your cats are vaccinated in case they were to have a fight with one, but mostly skunks are pretty shy and do not attack other animals..they usually try to avoid contact and conflict.

Skunks are great.  They can actually dig up bees nests (bees, wasps, whatever) and eat them!  If it did tear up your yard in a spot, it did you a favor in the end.  So they eat bugs and I think they'll eat dead animals too but I don't think they hunt so your cat will be fine.
