I have a small Common Garter Snake and he won't eat!?

I've tried earthworms, and small grasshoppers.

what else should i try?

  3. If you just got him, then he's most likely stressed and going through a period of not eating which is normal in this kind of situation.  If you've had him for awhile then he's either sick or something is making him uncomfortable in his home.

  5. In the wild, garter snakes primarily eat fish and frogs. They will eat worms also, but this is not their preferred diet. They rarely eat rodents in the wild. I would go buy some rosey red minnows from a pet store or go catch some minnows with a dip net from a pond. When it's big enough to eat pinky mice, you can rub fish slime on them and they usually will take rodents pretty readily like this.
