I have a smithy 1240 cnc mill?

Question

Is there a way that I can boost up the speed to approch high speed milling staus? The machine can jog fast. But when I have a part programed it limits me as to how fast I can go. The computer is setup with EMC2 software. I'm not familiar with the software. But I think that, unless I tell it what material I'm cutting into the computer assumes the worst case. And slows my speeds down to stainless speeds and I'm only cutting into aluminum. What settings should I change?
