  1. Did you install the software?

Do you have the camera turned on and on playback/review?

Try this, on comp go to start >>control panel>> hardware and sound>> plug your cam in, turn it on playback/review >> go to scanners and cameras>>highlight camera icon, click on add device.

    And/or:

On your comp go to start> control panel > system and maintenance > device manager.  Plug camera in, turn it on/playback (making sure your batt's fully charged)

In device manager your camera should pop up in imaging devices or portable devices. Right click on the icon and click "update driver software".

Better yet, get a card reader (if you don't already have one built in)

  2. It's easier to download the files from the memory card by using a card reader. Be sure to get one that reads all types of cards (as Sony's memory cards are.. unique, let's just say). They are fully supported by Mac & Windows without having to install any driver, unlike the camera.

To connect the camera directly to the computer--it not only drains the batter(ies)--if the power fails mid transfer-you can corrupt the files. And the rechargeable batteries can be recharged for so many times and then they have to be quite expensively replaced.
