I have a sony handycam DCR-DVD308 camera, but is it compatible with pinnacle studio ultimate version 11?

Do I need a firewire for it to work?

  1. As a DVD-based camcorder , there is no DV or firewire port on that camcorder. You have two methods to get video from it:

    1) Using your AV cables that cam in the box, connect them to the camcorder and an Analog/Digital bridge. Pinnacle Dazzle if your computer has only USB ports; Canopus if your computer has firewire ports.

    2) If your computer has a drawer loading DVD disc drive, put the disc in the drive and rip the video using HandBrake. Never put a minidisc in a slot loading drive - you will break the drive and scratch the disc.

    Warning: The video you get on your computer will be terrible quality. That is the fault of the camcorder. DVD drives were a good idea and very poorly implemented. The manufacturers should recall the DVD camcorders and refund everyone's money.

    Once you get the video into the computer, Pinnacle should be able to manipulate it.
