  1. Yes it certainly sounds like it.  You probably just wrenched it by turning wrong or twisting quickly.  Have a hot bath and apply either a heat pad to it or ice or you could even do both - just not at the same time :)  Try and rest it if you can and avoid sudden twisting or heavy lifting.  When you're sitting down place a pillow in the small of your back for extra support.  Some ibuprofen will also help with both the pain and inflammation.

  2. There are a lot of possibilities.Usually the burning sensation means that you came close to or did strain a muscle. This is just a little more serious than pulling one. Whenever this happens start with cold to reduce any swelling or inflammation of the muscle. Cold is all you should use for the first 24 hr. Apply for about 30 min at a time. Place a cloth or towel between the ice and your back. After the first 24 you can use either heat or cold, whichever feels best. Your body will like one over the other, you can also switch back and forth. Try to take it easy for a while. Avoid lifting, twisting and bending if possible, Walking will also help a lot. If this doesn't start on the mend within 3-4 days consider seeing a doctor to rule out anything more serious.pp
