I can't eat anything because my throat hurts too much. 2 nights ago i was really cold and shivering despite having a hoody and shirt on underneath the hoody. I also had trousers on obviously and then a i changed into a warm pair of socks. I was underneath the covers and had a hot water bottle but i still felt cold and felt a little sick. I also had a sore throat to make it even worse. I asked my mum and she said it was probably just a virus.

Now today i feel fine i'm not cold and not shivering. The only thing that is bothering me now is a really bad sore throat. It's really hurting and i've tried cough mixture, cough drops and gargling mouthwash and it hasn't helped.

Any advice?. I'll really appreciate it

Thanks.

  1. To fight off the infection, you need to start eating well and drinking lots of water. Warm tea with honey will make your throat feel a little better.  Warm up some broth, or some hearty soup.

If you have a blender, mix up some smoothies for yourself. If you have a juicer, start mixing up some vegetables.

I eat garlic when I'm sick with a soar throat. I eat one clove a day for about a week. I usually get better right away. I would recommend this for you if you can stomach raw garlic.

  2. are your tonsils swollen? if they are and they are reddish, you most likely have tonsillitis. if they aren't, and if the back of your throat is reddish, then it's pharyngitis. either way, if Hexetidine (Bactidol) is available in your area or if you have an antibacterial gargle solution, gargle 2 - 3 tablespoons of the solution 3x a day (usually after eating). if you have lozenges which have a bit of lidocaine or benzydamine (difflam), you can have that before you eat your meals or as often as every 4 - 6 hours depending on the severity of the pain. take it like candy, don't swallow them whole. in between, use saline gargle, it's really simple. in half a cup of lukewarm water, add a pinch of salt then use it as gargle. swallow cool water. no spicy/sour food. no carbonated/alcoholic drinks. you can also take acetaminophen/paracetamol every 6 hours as pain-reliever. take vitamin C/ascorbic acid to boost your immune system and help fight the bacteria/virus. if pain persists after all these regimen, see a doctor for possible antibiotics.

    take care
