I have a speech problem since I was born, I am now 16, and still haven't been able to say "R" sounds wells.

I have improved though, because In grade school I couldn't pronounce anything, but now I can pronounce each sound, except the R sound.

I am sick of avoiding the R sounds and getting made fun of because of it. I want to be able to say all my sounds without fear by the time I am 17.

I have been to a speech therapist, and they said I was good enough, not to need one, but I still think I can't say my R sounds good.

Any one who knows what Im going through, or experience this problem. That can help?

I am hoping that I might just grow out of it like I did with my other sounds.

  1. Yeah..I know how that feels...I couldn't say my S sound. (my tonuge went into the teeth).

The way I say my rs is by starting out in a small o in my lips, then proceeding to the opening of my mouth and a slight drop in my jaw as I finish.

Do you usually say "W"? Like..Rachel's is Wachel's? You aren't dropping your jaw, you're opening your mouth sideways (the way it looks in the mirror).

Okay, for endings..you know how to say "err" right? Ok. Add a T. So "Ter". Now, you pretty much got water down.

The best way to correct yourself is to practice in the mirror. Helped me bunchs with my problem.

Hope I'm a helper. But if it really becomes a problem, talk to someone about it (therapist, consuloer at school).

  2. i actually have that prob too. I can say everything except R and I am 13. I went to speech classes in school from pre-k till fourth grade. I haven't improved. Tell me if any other answers help you, please?
