I have a srtange phobia of jet engines (turbines) can any one give me some tips on surviving flights?

there really loud and they suck stuff in AND THEY HAVE BIG SPINNY BLADES !!!! HELP

I think the problem is the noise, it is definately irritating, as for the turning blades, they are all contained inside the engine, where the old propellers spun in front of the engine making this huge invisible food processor. Fear is not a bad thing, its what keeps us alive, you give a running Jet engine a wide beth and if you aren't sure which engine is running, treat all of them as if they are running. I worked on military jets for over thirty years. The engines are worth your respect.

You should realize that the engines on modern aircraft are quite safe.  they don't start until it is safe on the ground.  They are loud because that is how they work.  The newer aircraft have engines that can survive sucking stuff in with little damage.   The blades act like really powerful slicers to cut the bird (it is usually a bird that they suck in) into tiny pieces.  Oh, the bird doesn't like the engines either, but the engines pose a danger to them.

You could try only flying on propeller type aircraft or don't fly in an aircraft at all - use another form of transport.

If you MUST sit on a jet aircraft, sit forward of the engines since most the noise goes out the back of the jet engines.

Also don't look out the windows, concentrate on eating the food they give you, read the safety card, read the advertising in the airline's magazine or some other activity to take your mind off the jet engines.

Ask for seating forward of the wings, there is much less engine noise.  Also you can ask your doctor for a prescription medication to relax you before flying.

Hey,you dont need to be scared of turbines.They do not posses harm to you.It is only used to suck in air for combustion to propel the aircraft forward.If you're in a phobia,put on a mp3,watch movies,close the windows,or sleep.
