be its genitals? I found one website that said that they can come out but usually go back in. It looks all twisted and dark. Otherwise the turtle seems fine. Any ideas/advice?

A turtle's p***s is often dark but I have never seen one that was twisted. It should not remain out. It might be a prolapse, which could be a serious problem. Do you have a veterinarian who can tell one end of a turtle from the other? Most can't. You might be able to find a competent reptile vet through your local herpetological society or veterinary school.

Sliders, I have two that are 36 yrs old!! Plus an 8 and 5 yr old.

I have had them in a pond for about 6 yrs now..
