It's a nutritional deficiency.  Try drinking Knox gelatin in some juice every day, or adding keratin to your diet somehow.  

Another suggestion:  I used to get this oil made by a company called DeLore, (get it at beauty supply shops like Consumer Beauty Supply in US malls)  that you apply to the nails and it strengthens them.  Works really well, too.  Should help.

hmmmmm..I got my straight line years ago ....and it will never go away. My nail splits at the line. Its a real pain! I will have to live with it for the rest of my life. Every time I seem to grab something and that part of the nail touches it ...it folds back . Yep.....and it hurts . All I can suggest is keep trimming it as short as possible .
